Project 2: Contextual Fit
Architectural Design II- ARC 257
The Smith House, designed by Richard Meier, is organized
around the idea of balancing shared family life with
individual privacy. The home separates public gathering
areas from private spaces while maintaining strong visual
connections to the surrounding landscape.

Narrative
This project builds on that organizational logic by
introducing a hierarchical space dedicated to physical and
mental well-being. The addition functions as an exercise room centered on the practice of yoga,
creating a calm and focused environment within the home. Positioned as a semi-private retreat,
the space allows for moments of reflection, movement, and balance away from the more active
areas of daily life.
The yoga room is designed to support mindfulness and personal wellness, emphasizing natural
light, openness, and a quiet connection to the surrounding environment. By integrating this
relaxing space into the house, the project reinforces the idea that a home should reflect the
routines and values of its occupants, supporting both communal living and individual well-being.
